We believe that encouraging women and girls to take their place in STEM will have a positive impact on Australia’s economy as well as social and financial equality between genders. This is important work that can’t be done without the support and commitment of the many. I have always been and continue to be proud of being a pharmacist. Pharmacy has provided me with a lifelong career with lots of opportunities to diversify into different areas and have a varied and satisfying career. I like being a health professional which combines my science education and my communication skills to make a difference.
Day to day, I am trying to streamline administration using technology.
In my personal life, I am still seeking a better life balance - an ongoing challenge for many people.
I am so passionate about pharmacy and the well-being of the pharmacists who make our profession what it is. Also, communication skills and how they can be used effectively to change situations. Communication is one of our most important activities in life as it underpins all our relationships and interactions with others.
I am a union member because of my desire to be around people who have a strong sense of social justice and who are actively working towards the betterment of our industry and our conditions. There’s also the availability of support and advocacy when needed which is priceless for peace of mind.
A significant gender gap has persisted throughout the years at all levels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines all over the world. Even though women have made tremendous progress towards increasing their participation in higher education, they are still under-represented in these fields.
